Michael you will live forever in our hearts. Fly away butterfly take it to your journeys end. We will always love you.

Official Statement About Recent Copyrights Article
I would like to inform all of the fans that the recent article on copyrights is a complete pile of nonsense.
I know the way my father feels about copyrights and the songwriter and when asked he will tell you. My father has always fought for the ownership of copyright and the songwriter for all of his life and always will, you can't always believe what you read.

Accessibility changes: We did some works on the web site so that all features are accessible to most users. The informations presented here will be put in a FAQ/Help section at some point in the future.
XHTML/CSS: we did a lot of works when creating the website to provide as far as possible the same look and feel to most people. All pages are respecting standards, and both the XHTML and the CSS are valid. You can now check this by clicking the corresponding buttons at the far bottom of each page. We heavily tested the website in different configurations: Firefox 3 (XP/MacOS X), Safari 3 (XP/MacOS X), Opera 9 (XP/MacOS X), IE7 (XP), IE8 (XP), with and without Javascript for each. Those are considered the "supported" configurations. IE6 (XP) is considered as "not supported", due to its large number of bugs and inconsistencies with standards, and while it's still usable, it provide a "degraded" look and feel. If you're using IE6, we strongly urge you to upgrade to a more recent web browser if you can.
Flash: We did some work this week to provide the same kind of accessibility for chatroom and videos access. The MINIMUM version of Flash player needed is version 9.0.124, due to some changes by Adobe in the security mechanism of Flash player. You can check your version of Flash player on Adobe site, and if necessary, download and install the latest version (10.0.22.87 as of today). Flash player 9.0.124 can be installed on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP and MacOS X. Last version of Flash Player (10.0.22.87) can be installed on Windows 2000/XP/Vista and MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard) (Adobe system requirements). We recommend the latest version.
We changed the way the chatroom and the videos are loaded by Flash so that they will load even if you don't have Javascript enabled, and this on all the "supported" configurations (even IE6). We also added a link to download Flash player if it is not installed or disabled, and we added a test so that if your version of Flash is older than the one needed (9.0.124), you will be prompted for a direct upgrade. However, this test can work ONLY if you have Javascript enabled. So if you don't have problem accessing the chatroom or the videos, you can do it without Javascript. But if you can't access the chatroom (you only get a gray background) or the videos (you only get a white-yellow background), please check if Javascript is enabled and/or enable it, so that you can be prompted to upgrade your flash player (if this is the problem).
In order to access the chatroom, you also need to be able to access ports 873 (Flash security manager) and 6667 (chat server). If you're sure of having the last version of Flash Player, and still can't access the chatroom, you may need to check and modify your firewall settings. You can also read Adobe opinion on the subject.
The Flash video is of "medium" quality, which should be good even for dial-up users. It support "seeking", meaning that you can get to whatever point in the video without having to download it completely to this point. It support also "instant start", which means the video will start as soon as it gets enough data, so that you don't have to get the whole video to start looking at it.
Quicktime: We also did some works on the Quicktime videos accessibility. The MINIMUM version of Quicktime player needed is version 7.1.6, due to the fact that all Quicktime videos are encoded using H264 codec, which is supported ONLY by Quicktime 7. You can check if your version of Quicktime is recent enough on Apple website, and if necessary, download and install the latest version (7.6 as of today). Quicktime 7.1.6 can be installed on Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, MacOS X 10.3.9 (Panther), 10.4.9 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard). Last version of Quicktime player (7.6) can be installed on Windows XP SP2, Vista, MacOS X 10.3.9 (Panther), 10.4.9 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard) (Apple system requirements). We recommend the latest version.
We changed the way the Quicktime videos are loaded, so that they will load even if you don't have Javascript enabled, and this on almost all "supported" configurations (even IE6, the exception being Opera, which NEED Javascript). We also added a link to download Quicktime player if it is not installed or disabled, and we added a test so that if your version of Quicktime is too old, you will see a "broken" movie icon (which is a better warning that there is a problem than the default infinitely-looping arrow). So if you see the "broken movie" icon instead of the video, you now it's time to upgrade Quicktime. We now also provide "preview" image of the video. You just have to click on the preview image to start the video.
We're now also taking in account dial-up users, by providing a "medium" quality Quicktime video if you're on dial-up. The quality is a bit less that the streamed video, so that it's adapted to dial-up bandwidth. Also, instead of being streamed, the video is downloaded, which means that even if you bandwidth degrade, you will still get the whole video, (even if it takes some time). Still, the video is configured to be "instant start", which means the video will start as soon as it gets enough data, so that you don't have to get the whole video to start looking at it. However, it don't support seeking, meaning you can't get to a chosen point in the video without having downloaded it completely to this point. The video quality is the same than for the Flash video.
We also provide a "high" streamed quality video, with support seeking and instant start.
Finally, we now provide "iPhone ready" video, both for EDGE/3G access and for Wifi access. Both support seeking and instant start.
The choice of which video to display is done automatically by Quicktime, based on Quicktime preferences and on your available bandwidth (and also if you are using an iPhone or not). So you don't have anything to do, it's all automatic by default.
It's worth mentioning that Flash player and Quicktime player are totally independent, and you can upgrade one and not the other, and in any order you wish (no more installation order problems that we had with Quicktime and Java...)
And on a final note, we also changed the server configuration, so that web pages should be server faster if your web browser support compressed XHTML, CSS and Javascript.
So a lot of news and a lot of work to make your experience with BarryGibb.com as pleasant as possible, for as many people as possible. Hope you will like it. Thanks a lot for your patience, and see you today in the chatroom.

Barry Gibb To Close Sydney SOUND RELIEF Concert
Hot on the heels of the news that Melbourne’s SOUND RELIEF concert is now sold out and Kylie Minogue’s confirmed guest appearance in Melbourne, the producers of this Saturday’s benefit concerts are thrilled to confirm that the legendary singer/songwriter Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees is returning to Australia specifically to perform at the Sydney event.
Barry Gibb, backed by some of Australia’s hottest contemporary musicians including Jon Farriss from INXS on drums, will take to the stage on Saturday night to perform some of the biggest songs of all time.
One of the most celebrated and successful artists and songwriters in the history of popular music, this will be Barry’s first major concert performance in Australia since his last appearance with The Bee Gees at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium in 1999.
Many Australians will always consider Barry Gibb and his famous siblings to be bona fide Aussies. The trio honed their distinctive style and launched their music careers while still schoolboys in Queensland, before taking off to conquer the world and going on to become one of the biggest-selling recording groups of all time.
Barry Gibb has always retained a close spiritual connection with Australia and said “I am truly proud and honoured to be a small part of such an incredible event. I shall be there with wings on my heels to help in any way I can the victims of this terrible disaster, let’s make it count for all of them. I’m coming home.”
Speaking on behalf of the producers, legendary promoter Michael Chugg said “It was beyond our wildest dreams to have someone of the calibre of Barry Gibb close the Sydney concert. With the vision and assistance of Kevin Jacobsen and Molly Meldrum we have made this a reality in five short days.”
This weekend’s SOUND RELIEF shows are guaranteed to become one of the defining concert events of our generation, all for such an important cause. Do not miss out on being involved!
While the SOUND RELIEF show in Melbourne is now a sell-out, new tickets have been released for the Sydney event but are selling fast.
Aside from the confirmed line-ups in each city, concert goers can expect a few more surprise guests on the day. Concert attendees are about to be part of - and will witness - history in the making as both Sydney & Melbourne Sound Relief concerts unite for a very special (& once in a lifetime) inter-city live link up at approximately 7.45pm
100% of the profits from the Melbourne concert will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
For the Sydney concert, 50% of the profits will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and 50% will be donated to The Premier's Disaster Relief Fund Appeal in QLD to aid the victims of the Queensland floods.
The SOUND RELIEF concerts are this Saturday (March 14). Tickets for Sydney can be purchased from Ticketek 132 849 or www.ticketek.com.au.
Love & Hope 2009 Rehearsal
Here at last, the first part of the Love & Hope 2009 Rehearsal video is now online! Exclusively on BarryGibb.com, you can now watch the rehearsal of the last live event of Barry Gibb. The whole rehearsal will be released as several videos. Here is the first one, with the band warm-up, and a complete song by Barry.
NO MORE JAVA! No more Quicktime For Java, no more pain in upgrading Quicktime AND Java, no more order of installation problems!
You can choose between two players: either the quicktime player (you need to have quicktime installed), or the flash player (you need to have flash installed). Some find that Quicktime Player is giving a better quality rendering, but Flash player is easier to set up (nothing to install if your flash version is recent enough).
Both players are taking advantages of last streaming technologies, so that you can skip and go forward anywhere on the video without having to download the full video.

The New ChatRoom is here!
Why not come and chat in the new Barry Gibb chatroom? The paint is still fresh, and the colors are a bit wet (and not definitive), but we hope that you will like it a lot.
NO MORE JAVA! So no need to install anything! It's the end of installation problem. We're now using Flash for the chatroom. It's faster, and pre-installed on all major web browsers. So you shouldn't have any problem accessing the chat room.
Right now, you don't have to register to participate in the chat, as we're in "testing" mode. Don't forget to enter your nickname when asked.
To test for your Flash version, you can go on the Adobe site. You may need to have a very recent version of Flash (superior to 9.0.124.0 - last version is 10.0.22.87) for the chatroom to work. Also, it may be good also to upgrade for the future... (hint hint).
Hope you will have fun, and thanks for your patience.
